Before we dive into the most compatible signs of the zodiac, it’s important to know what your sign is and how datehookup dating it can affect your personality. “In astrology, someone’s sun sign, or zodiac sign, represents their identity, qualities they are developing during this lifetime, and personality traits,” Campos-Powell tells us. “It’s important to note that astrology is much deeper than simply analyzing a person’s sun sign and there may be many reasons a person doesn’t resonate with their zodiac sign. We must consider the entire birth chart to accurately get a read on an individual’s astrological blueprint.” (Reader tip: Your birth chart-or natal chart-is a diagram that shows the positions of the sun, moon, planets, and other astrological aspects, along with their angles, at the time of your birth. This indicates your sun sign, along with your moon sign, rising sign, and other planetary placements.)

Unsurprisingly, the stars indicate that some astrological love matches are stronger than others. “There are signs that are going to have a more seamless romantic connection that will feel more natural and pos-Powell explains, noting that the element your sign falls into (water, air, earth or fire) can have an impact as well. “Generally speaking, air signs and fire signs blend nicely together,” she says. “They both typically possess an outgoing, fun-loving nature that has them eager to try anything once. Earth signs and water signs generally require more stability and can be more introverted by nature.”

Of course, the explanation doesn’t stop there. You can look deeper beyond your sun sign into two specific planetary placements for even more guidance. “When we’re looking for romantic or sexual compatibility, it’s important to consider Venus, our love language, and Mars, the planet of sex and action,” she adds. “These two planets in our birth chart describe the type of people we are attracted to and why. When two people have alignment between these planets, sparks can surely fly.”

But, if you find that you and your partner aren’t “traditionally” compatible, there’s no need to panic. “I don’t think there is such a thing as bad compatibility,” Campos-Powell adds. “In our birth charts, we all arrive with different purposes and seek a variety of experiences. Astrology is also very complex, there are a few other methods of looking for compatibility between two people. There is no one version of love or the perfect partner, so it’s important that people remember we are here to experience our own unique love story and relationships.”
